40 Years of Ministry in South Sudan

Across as an organization started in 1972 and since then has gone through a number of transitions in response to the changing conditions in South Sudan and partners outside Sudan. In 2012, we will be celebrating 40 years of ministry in South Sudan!

At the dawn of the new Republic of South Sudan, Across focuses to be a transformational resource organization, with holistic discipleship as a focus.

Across 2011 | Holistic Ministry

 We are an interdenominational, international Christian organization focused on South Sudan. We work to build communities, improve education, strengthen churches, improve livelihoods, and teach about health. Working with South Sudanese communities in a dialogue of equals, Across seeks biblical transformation in all sectors. Churches, schools, gardens, and health centers alike work with Across to aid in the mutually envisioned development.  Through training programs and local resources, Across works to understand and engage root causes of problems from the perspective of those affected.  A holistic approach, one for the whole person and whole community, is necessary for creating meaningful relationships and authentic change.

Offices

 Across has its International Head Office in Nairobi, Kenya, and a Regional Office in Juba, South Sudan. A logistical support base is in Lokichoggio, Northern Kenya, and then 4 program locations in South Sudan: Juba, Yei, Rumbek/Adol, and Boma. Across works from rather than in program locations, which means even other areas can be reached with our ministries. Across has a workforce of around 325 staff, the majority of which is Sudanese, with a smaller partition of overseas missionaries and regional expatriates.

Across is a Partnership!

Across, as a para-Church organization, is a central link in a bigger ‘partnership for transformation’. A host of international partners and donors support the ministry of Across with funds and human resources, while also offering a platform for dialogue and strategizing.  Local partners within South Sudan include churches, local organizations and communities we work with. Across plays a role in connecting the worldwide Church and the Sudanese Church.
