This is a collaborative program of Across, donors, Christian Educators and the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MOEST), working together for sustainable community based education that is accessible to all children and adult learners.
Across’ Education Programs are in 3 locations: Rumbek East, Boma sub-county and Yei. In Rumbek, our activities focus on:
Proving the quality of local schools and the support provided to them by the communities and the PTAs
Increasing access to education for groups with marginal access to education (Young Children, girls and adults).
Improving the capacity & skills of the teachers, head-teachers and supervisors through teacher trainings.
In Boma-sub-county, our activities focus on:
Developing the education system , building towards the local capacity to sustain it.
Increasing the quantity and quality of trained teachers in Pibor County.
Sensitizing the communities of Boma sub-county with regard to education, especially girls and women. A highlight of this has been the start of 5 Girls Education Movement (GEM) clubs in 4 different schools!
And in Yei, Yei Teacher Training College (YTTC) offers a 2-year pre-service teacher training program to teachers from throughout South Sudan.
Mission & Vision Connection
While education that is not Christ-centered leads to transformation, it does not necessarily lead to Christ-centered or biblical transformation; neither does it necessarily require an integrated, holistic methodology. At the core of Across’education projects, in our methodology and content, is the biblical understanding that Christ is the source of all knowledge and wisdom. As such, Education is simultaneously transmitting and receiving knowledge in such a way that each learner gains awareness and appreciation for his/her own capacity and ability to become a teacher –academic or otherwise- who teaches to change lives: body, soul and spirit.
