Across Media, South Sudan
At the dawn of the new Republic of South Sudan, Across is seeking to bring Christ-centred Transformation in individual lives, families and communities - and therewith to disciple the Nation. One of the approaches is to develop and establish high-quality media in South Sudan. Thus far, Across has managed to make an impact in the areas of literature development and reaching out to people through radio.
Since the 1990s, Across has been active in producing and publishing literature for the South Sudanese market. In earlier years the emphasise was on school books (the South Sudan curriculum), which later on moved towards Church Literature like hymnbooks and Christian instruction. SLC translates books in various South Sudanese dialects, and targets to market them throughout South Sudan. Currently, SLC is looking to become more market oriented with a printing unit, based in Yei.
For over 10 years, Across is effectively developing and broadcasting radio programs in a wide range of socio-economic, educational as well as spiritual areas and in many South Sudanese languages. Two technologies are used: radio (16 local FM stations, and short wave) and the Megavoice Player (an innovative mobile device that records up to 160 hours of content, has a reach of up to 20 people and is powered by solar technology). Currently, the radio ministry integrates in a variety of programs Across implements across South Sudan.
